SCENARIO 02·R&D·Drawing recognition
Manually Identifying Dozens of Balloons on Each Engineering Drawing
An engineering drawing may contain 50 or 60 balloons, which are numbered circles on the drawing. The person reading the drawing must find and identify each one before the next process can begin.
This task requires little judgment but sustained attention. More balloons take more time and increase the risk of omissions. One laptop bearing manufacturer advised by us began implementation in the first half of 2026 and deployed about 50 AI Agent within six months. Engineering drawing review was one of the applications.
At a glance
How it was done
- Open the drawing and find every balloon
- Identify each number and annotation
- Create the balloon list
- Check everything again from the beginning
Where it gets stuck
A drawing may contain 50 or 60 balloons. When people check them one by one, more balloons increase the risk of omissions. Duplicate or missing numbers are also hard to spot at a glance.
With an AI Agent
- Open the drawing and find every balloon
- Identify each number and annotation
- Create the balloon list
- Check everything again from the beginningHuman approval
The AI Agent finds balloons, identifies their annotations, and prepares the list. Personnel only review the list and the drawing issues it identifies before sending the results to the next process.
How it was done
- 01Open the engineering drawing and find every balloon
- 02Identify the number and annotation for each balloon
- 03Organize the results and send them to the next process
- 04Check everything again from the beginning for omissions

With an AI Agent
- 01What it doesFind every balloon on the drawingStandard appliedFind every numbered circle on the drawing, then follow its leader to the dimension or annotation it identifiesOutputEach balloon and the location it identifies
- 02What it doesIdentify the annotationStandard appliedCopy each annotation exactly as shown on the drawing. Do not omit any tolerances or symbols, such as Ø40 H7 or 25±0.05. Write "Cannot determine" when the target is unclear, and flag unclear text for personnel to confirm.OutputBalloon list: number, annotation, view, and notes
- 03What it doesCheck the drawing for issuesStandard appliedCheck for duplicate or skipped numbers, balloons without leaders, and dimensions or notes without balloons. List only the issues. Do not renumber balloons or fill in missing content.OutputDrawing issue list identifying the relevant number or dimension for each issue
- 04What it doesSend the results for manual reviewStandard appliedState the total number of balloons and issues at the end of the list so personnel can check for omissionsOutputThe list goes to the next process only after manual review. Personnel and drafting staff decide whether to revise the drawing.
TimeServes about 20 user sessions per week and saves about 67 hours in total
- Human approval
- Step 4 remains a manual review because 99% does not mean every drawing can pass automatically. Personnel must review the results before the process continues.
- Platform modules used
- Skills
This case is useful because it does not give one general accuracy rate. It defines the AI Agent's limits by balloon count. Users know which drawings require closer attention, making the manual review more focused.

01Upload the Drawing and Instructions

- 1Upload the Example Bearing Housing part drawing.
- 2The instructions say to copy the drawing exactly, organize the results in a table, and separately list the drawing issues and totals.
02Processing

- 1The AI Agent first reads the uploaded part drawing.
- 2After reading it, the AI Agent begins preparing the balloon list.
- 3Annotations are copied exactly as shown. All tolerances and symbols in Ø40 H7 and 4-Ø9 through holes are retained.
03Balloon List and Drawing Issues

- 1Balloon 11 has no leader. The result says "Cannot determine" instead of guessing the content.
- 2The drawing issue list identifies duplicate and skipped numbers, missing leaders, and dimensions without balloons.
- 3The totals at the end show 12 balloons and 5 issues, helping personnel check for omissions.

FAQ
- How accurate is the drawing-reading AI Agent?
- Accuracy is 100% for drawings with 50 to 60 balloons and 99% for drawings with more than 60. These results were calculated by balloon count at a laptop bearing manufacturer advised by us. The figures come from a 2026 media report about this client. The report did not provide accuracy for fewer than 50 balloons.
- Does 99% accuracy eliminate the need for manual review?
- No. In this case, balloon count is used to estimate the capability limits, and personnel still review the results. A 99% accuracy rate does not mean every drawing can pass automatically. Manual review can also focus on drawings with more balloons.
- Can engineering drawings remain inside the company?
- Yes. EgentWrX supports cloud, on-premises, and hybrid cloud and on-premises deployment architectures. With on-premises or hybrid deployment, drawing data can remain inside the company. The company's data policy determines where it is stored.
